DOT Physicals at Cleburne Occupational Health – What to Expect
STEP ONE: DOT Medical History
To provide an idea of your general health and family background, you’ll be asked to answer a brief medical history detailing past illnesses, diseases that run in your family, your overall health and you will be asked to list any medications you are currently taking.
STEP TWO: The DOT Exam
Once you’ve provided your medical history one of our friendly staff members will review the information you’ve provided, go over any medical conditions you may have, and perform a basic urinalysis test. As part as the exam our certified medical examiner will also:
- Measure your height and weight
- Take your blood pressure and heart rate
- Examine your vision and hearing
- Test your range of motion
- Check your breathing
STEP THREE: DOT Paperwork
The final step is the process of the paperwork. Once the medical history and exam are complete your certified medical examiner will determine whether you meet all the required qualifications and will issue you a MEC. Some medical examiners will give an examination that is good for three months, six months, or one year. Upon leaving the office, you’ll be given two copies of the exam, one for you and one for your company. We will also scan and keep a copy of the exam in your file at the office. At our office we automatically submit your MEC to the FMCSA website. And after all the paperwork has been processed, you’ll get your very own DOT medical card to always keep with you when you’re driving.
Preparing for your DOT physical
At Cleburne Occupational Health & Wellness Clinic, our goal is to provide you with every advantage to successfully complete your DOT medical examination. For a hassle-free visit, we ask to please compile all medical records, medical conditions, medications and contact information of any medical doctors. On the day of the exam, you’ll have to bring the following (where applicable):
- Photo Identification
- Medical Records
- List of medications, including strength and dosage (prescription and over-the counter drugs)
- Eyeglasses
- Hearing Aids
- Any clearance letters provided from your medical doctor (heart-related issues, vision, hearing, diabetes, etc.)
